Dry Fast Foam For Outdoor Cushions Solid foams are considered to be lightweight cellular engineering materials. They can be classified into two types based on their foam structure: Closed cells and Open cells. The closed cell foam has interconnected pores and this gives it high compressive strength. Open cells have pores that are connected and are relatively soft.
Closed-cell foams are used in applications like medical cushioning, athletic pads and landing pads. Open-cell foams are used in applications like outdoor furniture, marine cushions, seating cushions and more. One type of open-cell foam is the dry fast foam. This foam has large and open pores which allow the water to pass through. The large open pores allow air circulation which dries out the foam quickly even after it gets saturated. Therefore they are used in outdoor cushions where they are exposed to rain, melting snow, morning dew, sprays and any other forms of moisture. Dry fast foam technology The investment casting manufacturing process consists of four main steps: Polyurethane (PU) foam dipping in the mold slurry, PU foam burning out and mold slurry sintering, filling the mold with melted metal and removing mold components. In this process, a PU foam template is filled under pressure with a mold slurry of material such as ceramic or gypsum. The mold material is dried and the PU foam is removed. Next, molten metal is filled into the open voids. High-pressure water is used to remove the mould material. The foam can be produced of the desired density and porosity. In the casting with space holders manufacturing process, a space holder casting is used instead of PU foam. The same manufacturing process is followed and the spaceholders are infiltrated with liquid metal. After solidification, the placeholder is removed by using acids or leaching in solvents. This process can be used to manufacture foams with desired geometry and a controlled pore size. The sponge replication technique consists of three manufacturing steps: Coating of PU foam with an aqueous suspension of metal or ceramic powder mixed with a binder. Next, the PU foam and the binder are burned out. This is followed by heat treatment or sintering of the foam. The process is used to produce foams of controlled pore size depending on the PU template. Why is dry fast foam preferred for outdoor cushions? Dry fast foam is ideal for areas that get wet. It dries out immediately because of its open pores. The large and open pores drain out the water and allow air circulation which dries out the foam immediately. The wet environment can cause the growth of microorganisms and the dry fast foam can be treated with an antimicrobial agent to prevent the growth of fungus, mold and mildew. The foam can provide comfort and it can return to its original shape once the pressure is removed. The dry fast foam for outdoor cushions can withstand the weather. The foam is available in varying firmness and you can select the best as per your application. The foam can also be treated with fire retardants.
